This is the latest information on the need for Passport Books or Passport Cards beginning June 1, 2009.
We feel the Card is a good, less expensive, alternative for those who don't or won't have a need for airline travel in the future. We think it should be made clear that this is not a Canada initiative as some in the U.S. still believe..
It has been driven by the U.S. Homeland Security Dept. since its inception November of 2001.
Canada has stated from the beginning that they would go along with the U.S. response.
However it was the border states and Canada who have pushed for a less expensive alternative like the Card.
